Philosophy of RMTS

Resonate Music Therapy Services’ philosophy is based on “Nordoff Robbins” improvisational approach which allows a musical connection to be established between clients and therapist.  The therapist is constantly aware of clients’ music expression, needs, and potential in order to respond appropriately.

Free Improvisation involves spontaneous creation of music that is in the moment and is often based on events in the session.  For example, the therapist may repeat clients’ rhythms or vocalizations to give support or to communicate.  Also, the therapist may introduce new music to exercise clients’ listening and following skills and encourage them to continue improvising.

Structured Improvisation is used to introduce clients to spontaneous creation and may include; group discussions, imitation, instrument playing, listening and following, moving to music, singing, socializing, and songwriting.
